On the occasion of Turkmenistan’s Independence Day, a cultural evening entitled “Treasures of Independence: A Celebration of Turkmen Heritage” was held in Brussels. The event was organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan and brought together representatives of European Union institutions, ambassadors of Central Asian states and several other countries, the Secretary-General of the Benelux Union, diplomats, cultural figures, and members of the media.
What made the evening unique was the participation of Turkmen designers presenting the country’s contemporary culture. They were featured as part of a program curated by Yelena Kharitonova, founder of the Central Asian–European Creative Alliance, who for the second consecutive year has been launching cultural initiatives in Brussels that bring Europe and Central Asia closer together.

A highlight of the evening was the fashion show by the brand Göwher Gouvernet, founded by Turkmen designer and artist Göwher Gouvernet-Pirkulyeva. The collection was presented with a specially created musical score. The music itself was an innovative experiment: it was composed by Maral Rahymova, an officer of the Turkmenistan Embassy, who used artificial intelligence to blend the sounds of traditional Central Asian instruments into a single composition. This became a vivid example of how cutting-edge technologies and creative approaches can contribute to the renewal and advancement of culture.
The program also featured remarks by Gaia Daneza, Cultural Advisor to the European External Action Service, who underlined the importance of cultural exchange as a foundation for mutual understanding.
In his address, Ambassador of Turkmenistan Sapar Palvanov noted that “culture by its very nature has no borders, and every human interaction is already a form of cultural exchange.” He highlighted that Turkmenistan’s neutrality provides a platform for cooperation and dialogue, while culture and creativity give this platform new depth and meaning.
The event became yet another step in strengthening cultural ties between Turkmenistan and Europe, vividly demonstrating that culture has the power to unite people and foster an atmosphere of friendship, trust, and peace.
