With strong leadership and clear goals, Tajikistan presented its roadmap for a greener future and called for joint climate action with Europe.
High-level round table
Brussels, June 16, 2025 – In a powerful call for international climate cooperation, the Republic of Tajikistan hosted a high-level round table in Brussels titled “Environmental Sustainability in Tajikistan: Unlocking Green Investment Opportunities.” Organized by the Permanent Representation of Tajikistan to the European Union and the Honorary Consul in Belgium, the event gathered European institutions, development banks, academia, and private sector leaders to explore strategic green partnerships.
A National Vision Rooted in Sustainability
The round table reflected the environmental priorities set by H.E Emomali Rahmon, President of Tajikistan, whose leadership has made climate resilience and green development a national priority. Tajikistan aims to:
- Achieve 100% renewable energy by 2032
- Transition to a fully green economy by 2037
- Plant over 2 billion trees by 2040
These goals are outlined in the Green Economy Strategy (2023–2037) and the State Program for Greening Tajikistan, which provide a strategic roadmap for clean energy, sustainable forestry, and biodiversity protection.
“We are not only planting trees, we are planting the future”

The event opened with remarks by H.E. Bahodur Sheralizoda, Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. He presented Tajikistan’s environmental roadmap and stressed the country’s openness to international cooperation. “We are not only planting trees,” he noted, “we are planting the future — one rooted in partnership, innovation, and shared global responsibility.”
Focus on the Forestry Nurseries Project
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Forestry Nurseries Project, delivered by Prof. Dr. Stjepan Mikac (University of Zagreb). The project envisions a national network of tree nurseries to support large-scale reforestation and carbon sequestration, aligned with both ecological and economic goals.

Strengthening EU–Tajikistan Partnerships

H.E. Muzaffar Huseinzoda, Ambassador of Tajikistan to the European Union, emphasized the importance of green diplomacy and long-term cooperation with European partners. Representing President Rahmon’s strategic vision, he highlighted Tajikistan’s role as a committed partner in the global green transition.
The round table brought together voices from:
- European Commission
- Prof. Dr. Michel de Kemmeter, CEO Club of Brussels
- The European Microfinance Programme (ULB)
- European Council
- Representatives from EIB, FINNOVA, EBRD, and JEFIC
Discussions centered on unlocking green financing, scaling public-private partnerships, and linking Tajikistan’s green priorities with the EU Green Deal.
Shared Responsibility, Shared Future
The event concluded with a lively Q&A session and networking reception. Stakeholders reaffirmed their interest in supporting Tajikistan’s green goals and exploring long-term investment and cooperation models.
As the climate crisis deepens, Tajikistan’s message stood out: small states can lead in sustainability when backed by bold leadership and international solidarity.
