Eurasiafocus proudly took part in the celebration of the 585th anniversary of Alisher Navoi at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Brussels, at an event organized by EUReflect’s expert and Director of the Tourism Department, Derya Soysal.
The event brought together distinguished speakers, including Derya Soysal, Pierre Bastin, and Antonio Buscardini, who explored Alisher Navoi’s enduring legacy from cultural, literary, and tourism perspectives.
Antonio Buscardini highlighted how Alisher Navoi serves as a cultural bridge for promoting Uzbekistan’s tourism, pointing to symbolic landmarks such as the Alisher Navoi metro and park stations as living reflections of this heritage.
Pierre Bastin emphasized Navoi’s unifying role across the Turkic world, underlining the importance of Turkic literature and Navoi’s historic call to write in the Turkic language as a foundation of cultural identity.
Derya Soysal underlined Alisher Navoi’s exceptional place in world literature, describing him as the father of Turkic literary tradition. She highlighted his profound influence on Uzbek, Azerbaijani, Turkish, Kazakh, Kipchak, Uyghur, and Turkmen languages, noting that Navoi’s literary vocabulary exceeded even Shakespeare’s. She also stressed Uzbekistan’s role as a historic land of renaissance since the Karakhanids, shaped by great figures such as Alisher Navoi, Babur, and Yusuf Khas Hajib.
The event reaffirmed the power of culture, language, and heritage as tools of dialogue, tourism, and shared identity across regions.
